A Night of Impromptu
On Sept. 27th, the Piano Department presented their Impromptu concert in the Brandt Black Box Theatre. Before entering the theatre, two large signs were stationed at the door to showcase the list of all 40 different performances put on by students. Unlike more formal piano concerts, Impromptu allows students to use their creativity to perform popular pop music compositions, such as “Pink + White” by Frank Ocean and “Killing me Softly” by the Fugees, while wearing outfits correlated to their selected pieces. Piano Senior Vania Montoya and Strings Senior Alani Ritter were one of the many groups that performed, and showed their creativity by planning similar outfits adorned with pink glitter to represent their piece, “Lover” by Taylor Swift.
Keys to Life: Piano junior Nicholas Stan lives with amniotic band syndrome- and a love for piano.
When one finds their connection to music, the newfound awareness of its ability to capture raw human emotion and expression is captivating. Discovering passion for this art form results in a desire to create and communicate through it, leading Stan to his instrument of choice.
