Ellen Liman, an artist, owner of the Liman Gallery in Palm Beach, and graduate of Barnard College who studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Columbia University, and the National Academy of Design, certainly understands the importance of art education. When her friend and School of the Arts Foundation Board Member Dorothy Lappin told Ellen about the School in 2005, she was immediately impressed with the level of talent she saw.
Ellen has been supportive of the school since then, attending and underwriting many Foundation events. This year, Mrs. Liman has decided on a new way to benefit the School. The Liman Gallery, a staple in Palm Beach since its opening in 2003 in the historic Paramount Building, will be closing this Spring, and Ellen has decided to donate 100% of the proceeds from its closing sale to the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation. “I couldn’t think of a better match than helping the school with an art sale.”
“I actually wrote an art decorating book for children. I have children and grandchildren. Arts education is underrated in the school system and Dreyfoos is a breath of fresh air. My foundation has supported a lot of Art Education Projects over the last 25 years. It has always been high on my agenda.”
The sale is not the first time that the Liman Gallery has supported Dreyfoos. Mrs. Liman has held several exhibitions for Dreyfoos Faculty and Students. Once, the Architecture students did an exhibit on emergency shelters for the homeless. Currently, the gallery has two pieces from Dreyfoos students.
Although visual art is Ellen’s passion, she regularly attends other performances and loved the Theatre Department’s production of The Addams Family this past fall, and adds that “Doing the Prism concert at the Kravis is very historic. If it doesn’t impact the community, it should.”
Mrs. Liman believes that supporting Dreyfoos greatly impacts the community. “I notice students performing around town. It is nice for the community and nice for the school. Dreyfoos is a very high level, highly vetted institution and it is unique. It reflects on life in Palm Beach. It does so by being a presence. People who take the time to participate are enriched.”
We hope that everyone will visit The Liman Gallery and take advantage of Ellen’s generosity. 100% of all proceeds from every purchase will go directly to support the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation.
