The School of the Arts Foundation is so grateful for the continued support of the Addison Hines Charitable Trust. Since 2007, the Hines Trust has donated over $375,000 to the School of the Arts Foundation in support of the visual arts, digital media and music departments.
Addison Hines, a longtime Palm Beach resident and philanthropist, passed away in June 2003. His legacy continues through the Hines Trust’s support of the artistic development of Dreyfoos students. Known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor, Mr. Hines was a successful real estate investor, major importer of photography equipment and owner of a chain of photography stores in the Philadelphia area before retiring to South Florida.
The late H. David Prensky, a founding board member of the School of the Arts Foundation, worked with Mr. Hines and encouraged him to support the School of the Arts. Dr. Presnky knew of Mr. Hines’ interest in the arts which resulted in a lead gift to the music department when the school first opened. Mr. Hines gift was a catalyst for other donors to support the school.
Carrying on Mr. Hines’ interest in supporting the arts and excellence in education, funding by the Hines Trust has provided the digital media students with items and opportunities such as computers, new software programs for animation and film making, DSLR cameras for video and still photographer, cameras for action photography, new lighting grids for studio portraiture work and a new 3-D printer. In the music department the funds have provided support for the artists in residence/guest artists program, the purchase of music, repair of music instruments, piano tuning and travel assistance.
The Addison Hines Charitable Trust’s support has made a tremendous impact on the education of thousands of students at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
