In Loving Memory of Coach Larry Rapke, a Cross Country and Track Coach here at Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
The Coach Larry Rapke Scholarship honors the memory of Coach Larry Rapke, beloved Cross Country and Track & Field coach at Dreyfoos School of the Arts. This scholarship is the first athletic scholarship awarded at SOAFI. Coach Rapke could spot athletic talent a mile away, and he developed several Dreyfoos athletes with no prior track experience into state medalists. But the medals were not his greatest achievement as a coach. When students joined the team who didn’t yet know they were athletes, he built their confidence, uncovered their strengths, and for many, helped them feel part of a sports team for the first time in their lives.
Each year, two scholarships will be awarded to underclassmen: one in the amount of $750 and another in the amount of $500. These scholarships may be used to support participation in academic summer programs, summer programs in the student’s primary or another art area, or athletic summer programs in any sport. Application qualifications: 9th–11th grade students from all Art Areas are eligible. Active participation on the DSOA Cross-Country and/or Track and Field teams. Demonstrated leadership in and dedication to the Cross-Country and/or Track and Field programs. Selected by the Athletic Department.
