For those who have attended Dreyfoos’ many formal music concerts, seeing music students perform pop music compositions in coordinating costumes may come as a surprise, but this comes with the territory of Impromptu.
The annual music concert, renamed to Ianpromptu this year due to the hurricane, gives music majors the opportunity to present their renditions of popular songs to friends and family. While students are able to perform classical pieces at a variety of concerts throughout the year, Impromptu is unique in that it primarily features well-known pop music, which, this year, included Mamma Mia by ABBA and Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. Students perform solos, or play in groups of up to five or six.
The unconventional nature of Impromptu shows draws full houses, including the Oct. 1 show, which was sold out. Tickets for future concerts and shows can be found on SeatYourself.
